Explore Class Types

With so many types of yoga available in our modern world, it can be difficult to find the right practice for you. While exploring different types of yoga to find your right fit, remember there is no right or wrong style. The best way to find the right yoga style is to find one that calls out to you. Whichever yoga style you choose, make sure it is one that makes you feel excited to go. You can also explore various different styles and your preference can change often depending on your needs. Choosing a yoga style is NOT a lifelong commitment.

So which one will get you excited? Below, I have a short guide for the common types of yoga that can help you decide whether you’re feeling more restorative or looking for a more power flow, or anything in between.

Vinyasa

Vinyasa links breath and movement. Vinyasa flows can be slow, dynamic, or mindful to alter the intensity of a practice. They typically run at a faster pace to get more heat through the body.

Hatha

Hatha includes a mix of poses, breathing exercises, and meditation. It’s designed to balance opposing forces: strength and flexibility, physical and mental energy, or breath and the body.

Yin

Yin is a slower style where poses are held for up to five minutes or more. It designed to increase circulation in the joints and improve flexibility, uses props like bolsters, blankets, and blocks to let gravity do the work, helping to relax. Yin targets the body’s connective tissues. Yin helps in recovery from hard workouts.

Restorative

This form of yoga uses props to support the body. The goal is to completely relax into poses, which are held for at least five minutes. Restorative focuses on down-regulating the nervous system and can benefit those who need to chill out and de-stress, and is a perfect addition to your rest-day self-care.

Yoga Nidra

Yoga Nidra is a guided meditation that allows you to hover blissfully between sleep and wake. One hour in yoga nidra is believed to be equal to a few hours of shuteye. This can be done after a power vinyasa flow or practiced alone.

Prenatal

This is a wonderful workout for our moms-to-be. It’s focus is on easing pain and discomfort associated with pregnancy, such as sore hips or an aching back. It provides stress relief, exercise, and self-care all in one session. Breathing exercises can come in handy during labor and delivery.

Post-Natal

Made for moms coming back into their exercise regime after pregnancy. Post natal focuses on slowing regaining strength while being gentle enough to give some self-care time. Can be paired with baby for mommy-and-me classes.

Children’s

Perfect for your children! These classes are geared towards your child’s specific age group and focuses on developing an exercise routine, concentration, flexibility, and having a great time. Filled with various games, the children get to lead portions of the class.

Trauma-Informed

While not a specific style, sharing any types of trauma with me will allow me to focus more on making your practice feel safe and secure.
